It is believed that Lucetta was the child of Martha Baker's first marriage to John Black who died at Cold Harbor, during the Civil War, in 1864. She appears in the 1870 and 1880 censuses as Lucetta, part of the Gross household. It is unclear if Daniel adopted her or if the census taker was mislead and believed Lucetta was another child.
