At the Charlton family reunion, Sunday, August 5, 1999, Marie Lewman (who I had never met), told me that she had my grandmother's Devil's Food Cake Recipe:
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup hot water
2 level teaspoons soda
1 Tablespoon Vinegar
Cream 1-3/4 cups white sugar, 3/4 cup butter, 2 eggs, 3/4 cup buttermilk, 2-1/2 cup flour.
Add above mixture to this. Mix Well. Bake until done. I think she used carmel icing on it. Enjoy.
