- Little was known of Matthias until I stumbled across a listing on World Connect Project for Matthias Spong. His father was listed as Hans George Spang/Spong who changed his name in 1752. It also listed George and Frederick Spong whom I know as the sons of Hans George Spang. It also listed a Leonard Spong without additional information. Many researchers attempt to connect Leonard/ Leonhardt Spang to Hans George Spang but the relationship has not been established. I have attempted to correspond with the creator of the Spong material but he has failed to answer three requests. This material is added as a possible connection with the source of Spong.ftw listed to show its source.
There does appear to be a discrepancy between Mattheus, born about 1759 and Matthias born 1774. It is established that a Matthias was christened in 1774 as the son of Matthias and Sophie at Dunkel's Church in 12 25/1774. I have been unable to find the marriage of Matthias and Sophie as yet.
