- WAREHAM - Lois F. (Smith) Spang, 76, of Wareham, died unexpectedly Friday, April 3, 2009 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was the wife of James R. Spang. They had been married for 53 years.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Dowling) Smith, she graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston, Class of 1951. After high school, Mrs. Spang worked as a clerk for John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Boston.
A previous resident of Dorchester, Norwell, Mattapoisett and Maine, she moved to Wareham in 1999. A homemaker, she enjoyed painting, arts and crafts and loved animals.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her son, James R. Spang Jr. of Salem, Conn.; three daughters, Catherine A. Hill of S. Kingstown, R.I., Mary J. Maag of Marion and Doreen L. Bisson of Northwood, N.H.; her sister, Joan Smith of Marion; and eight grandchildren, William and Matthew Spang, Nicholas and Daniel Hill, Alex and Andrew Maag and Elizabeth and Jeremy Bisson. She was the sister of the late Marilyn Metzler and Phyllis LeBlanc.
Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham, at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Patrick?s Church, 82 High St., Wareham, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Monday, April 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.
