Notes |
- Edward McClure Ouderkirk's father died when he was four or five and his mother married Emil Hurzeler when Edward was six years old. He never was legally adopted but finally assumed the name of Hurzeler and took out a homestead and was married by that name. Hence my brother and I have the name of Hurzeler instead of Ouderkirk. We finally met his uncles when I was eight years old. He had not seen them since he was four or five. We now have the whole Ouderkirk family. I wish my dad had been alive when I finally found out about the Ouderkirk Family Association. He would have finally had a sense of belonging. He always had a feeling of being on the outside. I hope he knows. My parents were ranchers and farmers all their married life. It is hard work and long hours and no such thing as 40 hour weeks. They were good people and we miss them very much. They went home three days apart. Daddy was 89 and mamma was 81. (Nola Stollens)
