- Mildred Mary Hinshaw, age 99, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born March 4, 1911 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Arlie Simeon and Effie Leona (Smith) Lockridge.
She worked at Indiana Bell from 1929-1936 and Chrysler Corporation from 1936-1943 as a telephone operator. She lived in New Castle from 1911-1943 and lived in the Mooreland area until 1963. She then moved to Muncie for 10 years and has resided in New Castle since 1972. Mildred was a member of First Christian Church in New Castle and was also a member of Megiddons Social Club. In October 2009 she was the Grand Marshall of the New Castle Homecoming Parade, having graduated in 1928. She was honored as the oldest living New Castle graduate. She enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening and cooking. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Steven L. (wife, Patricia) Hinshaw of New Castle; two grandchildren, Chrystie and Matthew Hinshaw; several nieces and nephews including, Don (wife, Shirley) Hinshaw of New Castle, Hubert (wife, Betty) Hinshaw of Avon, Cecil Hinshaw of Hagerstown, Delbert (wife, Shirley) Hinshaw of Mechanicsburg, Robert (wife, Vera) Hinshaw of Colorado Springs, CO, Keith (wife, Elsie) Hinshaw of Columbus, OH, Carla (husband, Dave) Spang of Hampden, ME, and Emogene Gunn of TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Hinshaw in 1995. He and Mildred were married in May, 1930.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rex Madison officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia Foundation, Donor Services P.O. Box 4072 Pittsfield, MA 01202.
