MIDDLETOWN - Margaret L. Givens, 87, resident of Middletown, passed away Monday at Bethany Pointe Health Campus after an extended illness.
She was born in Elkhart, Ind., on April 21, 1927, the daughter of John J. and Lillian E. Hall-Grimes Miller.
She was a homemaker but worked at the Oakville Post Office, Westminster Community Center, and Sears Farm Store in New Castle.
She had lived her entire life in the Henry County area.
She was a member of the Middletown Church of the Nazarene and worked with the senior groups. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Gideons of Indiana where she was state chaplain, the Suburban Home Economics Club, worked within the First Free Will Baptist Church and was superintendent at Chicago Corner Christian Church. She had taught Sunday School for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, in 1994; brother, John A. Miller; and sisters, Rosetta Abshire, Edna Currier, Ethel Goldey, Lucinda Rigney, Clara Justice and Luella Maxwell.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Lynn (Paul) Waid of Middletown, Gregory Eugene (Carolyn) Givens of New Castle, Faith Lee (Christopher) Hailey of Pendleton, Marcia Lillian (Vaughn) Pensyl of San Angelo, Texas, Alvin Elmer (Nadine) Givens of Carmel and Madonna (Lucrecia) Herman (Randy Clinard) of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Mary Miller of Sturgus, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Middletown Church of the Nazarene, 698 N. Fifth, Middletown, with Dr. Philip C. Rogers officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
