Name: Douglass, Archibald
Year: 1774

The four Douglass Brothers - are said to have chartered a ship for themselves and immediate friends, and to have brought with them from their old home whatever promised to make life more comfortable in the new world. This included China and
glassware, linens, and bedding, household utensils, and much good furniture, solid mahogany and walnut upholstered in leather, most of which has become scattered thru time, but some of it still prized as heirlooms. One of these things known as the
"Douglass Clock", we saw recently in the home of Miss Margaret Douglas Wilson Latta, No. 3902 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. It is a large eight-day grandfather's clock, with fine works and very heavy brass weights, thought to be of French
manufacture, that was brought from Scotland by Archibald Douglass nearly 200 years ago. How long it was in the family before they emigrated to America is not known. Butit has ticked away the lives of half a dozen generations on this side of the
sea, and is doing its work for the seventh."

"Archibald Douglass, a Scotch gentleman of ample fortune emigrated late in life of [sic] America and took up large grants of land in various parts of Pennsylvania. Several of his descendants are handsomely entombed in an old graveyard(St. John
Episcopal Church,Compass, Pennsylvania)[in] Chester County, just over the Lancaster County boundary line>"

918 Letter from Marjorie Annis (Wilkinson) Zaring September 27, 1999
I don't have connections with the Davis side from North Carolina anymore - but they were from Yadkin County near Elkin, NC. My grandmother Davis was a Jester and in my teens we visited the Jesters in around Elkin. They are probably still there, many were teachers.

From Christopher Hutton, great-grandson, the Davis home was a mile west of Mooreland, Indiana. It burned in September, 1906.

936 Little was known of Matthias until I stumbled across a listing on World Connect Project for Matthias Spong. His father was listed as Hans George Spang/Spong who changed his name in 1752. It also listed George and Frederick Spong whom I know as the sons of Hans George Spang. It also listed a Leonard Spong without additional information. Many researchers attempt to connect Leonard/ Leonhardt Spang to Hans George Spang but the relationship has not been established. I have attempted to correspond with the creator of the Spong material but he has failed to answer three requests. This material is added as a possible connection with the source of Spong.ftw listed to show its source.

There does appear to be a discrepancy between Mattheus, born about 1759 and Matthias born 1774. It is established that a Matthias was christened in 1774 as the son of Matthias and Sophie at Dunkel's Church in 12 25/1774. I have been unable to find the marriage of Matthias and Sophie as yet.
